JV CATS TOP MADISON COUNTY, 11-0

Cara Lee Mason threw a no hitter and allowed only 2 base runners (2 errors) as the Guntersville JV Wildcats shut out Madison County 11-0 in front of a shivering cold home crowd Monday night.

Mason struck out the first batter of the night with a full count fastball to get things started and only needed 4 more pitches to retire the next two batters.  The Cats scored early and often in the first after two walks by Baker and Creps set the stage for Kaitlyn Bannister to blast a double to the right field fence.  Baker and Creps scored on the shot and Bannister advanced to third on the Tiger throwing error.  Bannister would score on a passed ball two pitches later to make the score 3-0. Bethany Langer and Bryneth Buckner added singles of their own and would eventually score to extend the lead to 5-0.

The Tigers would go down in order and Mason faced the minimum # of batters through three innings.  After a Wildcat error allowed the first baserunner of the night, Lauren Wise threw a strike to third baseman Peyton Whitaker to pick off (F) Benson who was attempting to steal third.  In the Wildcat third, Bannister crushed her 9th triple of the season (one at varsity tournament) and scored on a throwing error to make the score 6-0 Cats at the end of 3.

In the fifth and final inning, Jessy Baker led off with a single and Deanna Creps drove her in with a triple.  Bannister and Whitaker added singles and Buckner walked;  eventually all five Cats crossed the plate to end all scoring at 11-0.

The JV Cats improved to 10-2.  The JV Cats will be in action on Tuesday, March 25 at Arab;  game is set to start (approx. 6:00) immediately following Varsity (4:30).  The JV and Varsity Cats will be in action this weekend in the Boaz Varsity and JV Round Robin Tournament.  Game times will be posted as soon as they are available.
